Drinking from a fire hose

 May 21. 2021 is when this journey into the land of IVF really began.  It was my first doctors appointment, I was anxious and nervous not knowing what to expect, however I was so grateful to have the same doctor I used with Jack!  Dr. Thomas is so sweet and has been through IVF herself, so she really understands what her patients are going through! I was called back for my blood draw first, to my surprise this went well…usually it takes a couple times or fishing the need around under the skin before finding a vein.  This was a welcomed change, maybe a sign of good things to come!   The nurse sent me from blood draw straight to sonogram.  During the sonogram Dr. Thomas checked to see if there was anything abnormal on my uterus or ovaries, everything looked great.  Then she counted the follicles on each ovary: 11 on the left, 7 on the right.  Of course during a typical cycle usually only one follicle matures, but during IVF they stimulate more folli...

Full Sibling

 In the days following Jack’s birth, while still in the hospital, I began thinking about Jack’s sibling(s).  This thought so soon after having a child may seem strange to most people, but when you are using a donor…sometimes time is of the essence!  We always knew that we would want at least two children, but considering how sick I was while pregnant with Jack I think this thought so soon even surprised Marcell, to a certain extent. Naturally, we logged into the Cryobank website to check how many vials were remaining for our donor.  We had been keeping an eye on this for several months already.  This is the message we were greeted with: “ ALERT : No vials are available for this donor, and no vials are expected to become available in the future. ” We were devastated when we read this!  More than anything we wanted a FULL SIBLING for Jack!   Of course as new parents our focus quickly shifted back to our newborn son!  We finished up our short hospita...
